Here we will rank some of the ideas that were contributed from around the globe and the ether of the internet.
I’m afraid i don’t have the actual finishing ranks for the ideas so I’m going to rank my favorite ideas from the initial ideas. I’m not going to do a top ten or anything so lame but give you some of my favorites in no particular order.
I’ll pick one I did as a New Year’s resolution seven or so years ago and that’s give blood. I may preach at you here for a little while so beware, make a commitment to give blood and keep giving blood (obviously not continuously, I’m led to believe that can be dangerous) through your local program. That’s a true way to give back to the community and it helps not only patients but medical staff as well. I also love the idea of giving air miles away to sick military peoples families so that they can visit them at no cost. Genius idea.
I also just love the idea of writing a letter to someone you love or even admire. Now I’m not talking stalking here but a family member or friend or perhaps a person you don’t know but does great work for a charity or some other worthy cause. Another one I did and most of us can do easily is to visit an elderly neighbour and spend some time with them, let them speak about the old days, think of some interesting questions beforehand. My lady was well into her nineties so I asked her what was the greatest invention in her lifetime, I also asked when she was happiest in her long life. Both of these questions got long ang genuinely interesting and insightful replies.
Giving away toys, clothing or books to a domestic abuse refuge is also one of those ideas you would probably never come up with by yourself but its a sensational idea. It does a massive amount of good an impacts on us in such a small way. Similarly asking for canned food from loved one’s so you can give it to a homeless shelter is another selfless act that can only help the shelter but have a positive affect on your life. Again in the same vain is giving unwanted blankets to a dog shelter, we all have piles of unwanted sheets blocking up the place.
Visiting an elderly person in hospital is easy and a really good deed. Most hospitals have a program for volunteers to visit people who have no family, it certainly makes you appreciate your own family. Sending music to soldiers overseas is also a superb way to raise spirits and you are helping your country in a small way. These are just some of the fantastic ways you can help those in need without spending a dime and there are barrel loads more if you put your mind to it.
